Graphic artist Junior Assing is the winner of the Agricultural Input Warehouse (AIW) logo competition.

Assing collected winnings of EC$500 last Tuesday at the offices of the AIW on Lower Bay Street. Assing, who has been a graphic artist for the last five years, said he used the Corel Draw programme and took about three days to design the logo. His entry won from a total of eight entries. {{more}}

The design concept of the logo features the outline of the building with a loaded forklift, which represents the AIW and its distribution of agricultural supplies in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The logo is also made up of furrows, bananas and fruit trees said to represent the productivity and the wide cross section of the agricultural sector, which benefits from the vital role of the AIW. The sun on the logo represents the bright productive future in the agricultural sector, ensured by the vibrant role of the AIW.

The AIW opened its doors in April 2002. A release from the company stated that the establishment’s purpose is to provide agricultural input to all farmers in SVG. The release added: “In providing this service, the aim is not to maximize profit but to ensure that inputs are available at reasonable prices, so that farmers can earn a livelihood from agriculture.”

The release further stated that in order to ensure the operation is sustained, the AIW must operate along commercial lines and must generate sufficient cash to meet its obligations to suppliers and other creditors.
