Cable & Wireless launches MAX

Cable & Wireless on Tuesday launched a bundled Internet solution known as “MAX”.

The latest package offers World Wide Web (www) services to Internet users and is made up of a computer monitor, a keyboard, a mouse and a box. {{more}}

The box, which is the brain of the set-up, is manufactured by a a company known as Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).

The package sells for EC$899 though persons can also credit the device at a cost of EC$79 a month for 12 months.

Speaking at the launch, Chief Executive of Cable & Wireless Daryl Jackson described MAX as a new and exciting package being offered by his company that gives maximum benefits at minimum prices.

“This is another step in making the Internet available for persons,” said Jackson, who noted that he hopes that Cable & Wireless can up Internet coverage from 50 per cent to about 80 per cent in the near future.

Jackson in an earlier release had stated that, “MAX was developed primarily for markers like ours; for people who need to stay connected to the Internet and to each other at a low cost”.

Vice President of Network Services at Cable & Wireless Leslie Ferdinand said that the product connects to the Internet in about 25 seconds and works at a speed of 500 megahertz.

Ferdinand stated that MAX comes complete and ready to use with pre-installed software from Microsoft which also detects viruses. The set-up includes an Internet browser, e-mail, instant messaging, a media player, spreadsheet and word processing capabilities.

Businesspersons and media practitioners were given a first hand look at how MAX works during the launch in front the Cable & Wireless building on Halifax Street.
