“We have a bright future ahead,” Dr. Thompson declared last Monday afternoon. {{more}}As he addressed residents at Golden Grove situated between Chateaubelair and Fitz Hughes at the opening of the Learning Resource Centre.

On an overcast day, marked by showers and covered by mist, Dr. Thompson exuded an air of excitement.

He traced the geography and history of the area – a former estate, that had been transformed into a residential area and today boasts the new Resource Centre constructed at a cost of $827,035.04.

Dr. Thompson’s optimism was based on the potential uses of the facility which has a computer laboratory, modern library, and updated Internet facilities provided by Cable & Wireless. Dr. Thompson expressed confidence that the Centre would be of value to the area. The building has two stories, finished with ceramic tiles, a meeting room, kitchen and business office. The top can also be used as a patio.

The area representative indicated that with help from UNESCO, a community radio station, to cater for the area’s needs would be installed.

Works on the facility are to continue to cater for a full sized hard court and a gymnasium.

Additionally, with the land available for the facility, Dr. Thompson pointed to the development of greater horticultural endeavours on the compound.

The representative praised Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves for supporting the project and stressed the need for persons in North Leeward to use its environment to enhance the tourism industry.

He urged residents to maximise the facility in safe and efficient ways.
