The Vincentian community in the United Kingdom has joined its counterparts at home and in the diaspora in organizing a number of activities to celebrate their 25th anniversary of independence.

A release from WINFA says that on Tuesday, October 26, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines High Commission in London hosted two official functions to mark the occasion. {{more}}

A service of thanksgiving and evening song was held at Westminster Abbey followed by a reception at the Holiday Inn, Kensington Forum.

High Commissioner, His Excellency Cenio Lewis delivered the feature address at the reception outlining the many achievements of the society and its people since the accession to independence in 1979. While there is much of which we can be proud, Lewis told the gathering, important challenges lie ahead which we must meet with fortitude and untied purpose.

He praised the untenable contribution of the UK-based Vincentians towards the development of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and encouraged them to continue to make such contributions, particularly in providing opportunities for needy Vincentian students to access education.

The SV2G young Vincentian group, the SVG UK Association and various regional groups have organized other activities.
