Singing the National Anthem loud and clear, Vincentian students at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies raised the National Flag on Wednesday October 27th to celebrate St. Vincent and the Grenadines 25th Anniversary of Independence.

Donned in yellow, green and blue T-shirts, specially designed for the occasion, the students began the ceremony with a word of prayer, followed by local folks songs while the flag was being lowered, and the National Anthem as it was hoisted.{{more}}

The students, who were joined by president of the Vincentian Association of Barbados, VINAB, Noel Adams, then sang and marched up to the front of the Administrative Building where the ceremony continued.

Celebrations to mark the 25th Anniversary of Independence began on Sunday at the campus with a church service in Lecture Theatre One (LT1) in the Teaching Complex. Vincentian Methodist Minister Reverend Tessica Hackshaw delivered the sermon, with Vincentian Professor Winston King reading the first scripture. The service was followed by lunch provided by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Student Association, VINSA.

Activities continued on Tuesday with a Food Sale and Exhibition, which saw several local dishes being served, including doughboy, black fish and a host of others. On display at the exhibition were products from the St. Vincent Brewery Ltd., Mountain Top Spring, Gonsalves Wines, St. Vincent Distillers Ltd. and Erica’s Country Style, as well as promotional material from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. There was also the showing of Highlights of Vincy Mas 2004 inside the Students’ Union.

Activities continue with a Beer Lime in the Students’ Union at which several Vincentian Deejays are expected to play. Today, Friday will see Vincentian talent and culture on display with a Cultural Evening/Concert scheduled for 9 p.m. in LT1. Troots and Ice as well as Lennox Bowman are expected to perform at this event.

The week ends on Saturday with a Beach Lime.
