One student who was successful in this year’s Common Entrance Examination is the proud recipient of the first scholarship to be awarded by someone of the Belair community.

Loroney Doyle, a former student of the Belair Government School, lost her mother at the tender age of four. She now resides with her grandmother.{{more}}

Loroney is presently a student of the St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown. She will be assisted for the next five years by an outstanding nation builder, Cynthia Matthews.

Matthews is a retired Trade Unionist of the Commercial Technical and Allied Workers Union. She now operates a small business at her home, a few yards from the school.

Matthews sees her contribution as her responsibility to give back something to the community. She has made several donations to the school over the years and contributes immensely to the School’s Feeding Programme on a regular basis.

The presentation was made at a small ceremony at the school on the 8th October 2004.
