At midnight, July 1, Earl Daniel, popularly called Old George, will set out to accomplish a monumental feat never dared before by a Vincentian.
Leading a batch of supporters, Daniel will attempt to walk 175 miles across the country in 72 hours, without sleep.{{more}}
The walk, dubbed the Walk for AIDS “Iron Man Endurance Challenge 2004”, is being staged in conjunction with the Ministry of Health to help raise awareness of the disease and funds towards the effort.
The funds raised will also go towards financing a scholarship programme for two secondary school students to whom Daniel has given his commitment.
The big question is, “Can it be done?”
Daniel, in an interview with SEARCHLIGHT, was very upbeat about the challenge since this is the furthest he will ever walk. “I believe I’m going to make it,” the radio personality and social worker said with great optimism.
The walk will take the route between Georgetown and Kingstown four times. It will end in Kingstown.
Persons interested in supporting the effort can purchase t-shirts.
Daniel is being prepared for the task ahead by Fitness Quest coaches James Bentick and Leslie Hall.
