Double Trouble for victim of stab and chop wounds

It was double trouble last week Friday for one man hospitalized with cutlass and knife wounds allegedly inflicted by identical twins.

Devon and Bevon Williams were indictably charged before the Serious Offences Court on Monday, March 26 that they did unlawfully wound on March 23, at Belle Isle, one Jomo Samuel, with intent so to do.

Prosecutor Adolphus Delplesche had first objected to bail for the two on Monday saying that Samuel was warded at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) with a stab wound to his left side and a chop wound to one of his hands. He said that the medical staff were trying their best to administer whatever help they could to the victim in light of his serious injuries. Consequently, the Prosecutor had asked that the defendants be remanded until the court received a medical update on the condition of the victim.

On March 28, when their bail was reviewed, the new issue was that it had come to the court’s attention that the brothers had another matter in process at the High Court. While court was in process, one of the twins blurted out that he thought the complainant in that High Court matter was dead.

Therefore, checks had to be made to ascertain the truth and it was discovered that the complainant was very much alive, and it was the complainant’s mother who had died.

The Chief Magistrate informed the bewildered twins, who seemed confused at the news, that in light of all that transpired, she would be denying bail to them.

Therefore, Devon and Bevon, handcuffed together, were taken to prison, where they will spend time on remand until their trial on June 27.
