Rubis Central Leeward’s female athletes repeat at ISSAC

The high octane energy of the female athletes of the Central Leeward Secondary School was too much for their opponents at last Thursday’s final of the National Lotteries Authority Inter–Secondary Schools’ Athletics Championships (ISSAC).

Turning on, at times, their big engines at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, the Central Leeward contingent amassed 377 points, to gain a second lien of the title.

Such was the dominance of Central Leeward, that second placed Thomas Saunders Secondary were 155 points adrift, at 212.

Third in the Female Division, with 198 points, were St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown, while Bethel High School placed fourth, with 192 points.

Completing the top five female places were the Girls’ High School, on 144 points.

Central Leeward’s Ulanda Lewis copped the intermediate female title, as she tallied 41 points. Lewis also claimed the victrix ludorum title.

Among Lewis’ feats on the day, were her record-breaking performances in the 100m, 200m and 400m.

Another Central Leeward representative, Aaliyah Anderson, shone as well, as she claimed the senior title. Anderson garnered 38 points.

The other individual awardee was Girls’ High School’s Latavia Daly, who posted 36 points, to win the Junior Division title.

Happy with his school’s retention of the title, physical education teacher and coach Chester Morgan expressed thanks to the teachers of the school, as well as the parents, who supported the athletes in every way.

Morgan also acknowledged the input of sponsors Rubis for helping to outfit the athletes and supporters, which he said, aided in uniformity and identity and added flair to the meet.

The physical education teacher projected that it is not outside the realms of possibility that Central Leeward Secondary can take both the female and male titles at next year’s ISSAC.

Central Leeward’s males at this year’s ISSAC placed fourth, behind St Vincent Grammar School, St Martin’s Secondary and Thomas Saunders Secondary.
