Gospel Fest sounds off April 13

“Experiencing the Power of God;” that’s the theme chosen for SVG Gospel Fest 2014. The month long gospel celebration, which was instituted here in 2003 and is into its twelfth year, will run from April 13th to 27th.{{more}}

The festival begins on Sunday, 13th April at the Victoria Park with “The Power of God,” a major gospel concert featuring the Diadem Dancers, Fenton Harry, Angelicas, KLT Dancers, Fidel Taylor, Ekklesia Gospel Band and others. The guest artiste will be international gospel singer Judith Gayle out of Jamaica. Minister of Culture Cecil Mc Kie is expected to declare the festival open.

The activities continue on Thursday, 17th April, with the Bequia Zonal Showcase at the Community High School from 6.30 p.m. There will be a special evening of dance on Saturday, 19th called: “Praise Him in the Dance” at the Peace Memorial Hall, which will feature all of the leading gospel dance groups in the country.

The Zonal Gospel Showcases, which feature various presentations in song, dance and drama from the churches, will take place on Sunday, 20th April in North Leeward, South Leeward, Marriaqua, South Windward and North Windward, from 6 p.m.

“Sing A New Song,” an evening of original gospel songs, will take place on Friday, 25th April at the Faith Temple Church from 7 p.m. This show is being organized to encourage persons to write and perform new material. Special prizes and awards will be presented to top performers on the night.

The 2014 festival will climax on Sunday, 27th April with the National Gospel Showcase at the Victoria Park. This will feature the top performers from the various zonal showcases held around the country and international gospel singer and evangelist Marvia Providence from Canada.

SVG Gospel Fest which has become a major event on the national calendar, was developed to provide exposure for local gospel artistes and create a greater spiritual awareness of God in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
