22 calysonians to battle for spot in finals
The stage has been set, and twenty-two calypsonians have been selected for the calypso semi-finals on Fantastic Friday, June 21, at the Victoria Park.{{more}}
The Upstage Experience leads the way with six picks: Shaunelle McKenzie, former Ragga Soca Monarch Shernelle âSkarpyonâ Williams, Fitzroy âBrother Ebonyâ Joseph, former Calpyso Monarch Bridgette âJoy Câ Creese, Ronald âRon Bâ Browne and Gosnel âGCâ Cupid.
The Graduates and the New York-based Dynamites each have five picks.
The Graduates Calypso Tentâs picks are former secondary school Monarch Zamfir âMan Zangieâ Adams, Kingsley âHeroâ Roberts, Glenroy âHomieâ Delplesche, who is making his debut in the calypso semis, Glen âBump Iâ Richards and Aurella âQueen Bâ Beache.
Dynamites will feature former Monarch Carlos âRejectorâ Providence, Paul âI Maddâ Scrubb, David âChang Iâ Morgan, John âThe Truthâ Dougan and Dennis Bowman.
Javelle âDiyaâ Frank, veteran Elliot âMysteryâ Shallow and newcomer to the calypso semi-finals Kirk âNinjaâ Knights are the three from the Pâtani Calypso Tent.
Three have been selected from the On Tour Calypso Tent, including two former Monarchs, Grantley âIpaâ Constance and Kenneth âVibrating Scakesâ Alleyne. The third selectee is Glenford âAzaraâ Charles.
The two reserves are Nigel âBroomâ Little and Junior âMarshieâ Marshall.
The selectees will do battle against one another for a chance to appear in the calypso finals on Dimanche Gras against Lornette âFya Empressâ Nedd on July 7.(DD)
