22 calysonians to battle for spot in finals

The stage has been set, and twenty-two calypsonians have been selected for the calypso semi-finals on Fantastic Friday, June 21, at the Victoria Park.{{more}}

The Upstage Experience leads the way with six picks: Shaunelle McKenzie, former Ragga Soca Monarch Shernelle “Skarpyon” Williams, Fitzroy “Brother Ebony” Joseph, former Calpyso Monarch Bridgette “Joy C” Creese, Ronald “Ron B” Browne and Gosnel “GC” Cupid.

The Graduates and the New York-based Dynamites each have five picks.

The Graduates Calypso Tent’s picks are former secondary school Monarch Zamfir “Man Zangie” Adams, Kingsley “Hero” Roberts, Glenroy “Homie” Delplesche, who is making his debut in the calypso semis, Glen “Bump I” Richards and Aurella “Queen B” Beache.

Dynamites will feature former Monarch Carlos “Rejector” Providence, Paul “I Madd” Scrubb, David “Chang I” Morgan, John “The Truth” Dougan and Dennis Bowman.

Javelle “Diya” Frank, veteran Elliot “Mystery” Shallow and newcomer to the calypso semi-finals Kirk ‘Ninja’ Knights are the three from the P’tani Calypso Tent.

Three have been selected from the On Tour Calypso Tent, including two former Monarchs, Grantley “Ipa” Constance and Kenneth “Vibrating Scakes” Alleyne. The third selectee is Glenford “Azara” Charles.

The two reserves are Nigel ‘Broom’ Little and Junior ‘Marshie’ Marshall.

The selectees will do battle against one another for a chance to appear in the calypso finals on Dimanche Gras against Lornette “Fya Empress” Nedd on July 7.(DD)
