Patrons urged to prepare for ‘The Ultimate Storm’

International recording artistes RDX of Jamaica and singing sensation Patrice Roberts of Trinidad will grace the stage at this year’s Soca Swing event at the Victoria Park on June 2.{{more}}

The regional artistes will complement a cast of seven of St Vincent and the Grenadines’ most renowned local soca artistes, along with the backing band K-Netik.

The event, proclaimed as “The Ultimate Storm”, will kick off the 2013 Carnival season and set the pace for subsequent shows and events.

RDX, widely known for popular hits such as “Jump” and “Kotch”, successfully made the crossover between dancehall and soca when they were introduced to Vincentians two years ago at the 2011 Soca Swing. The Jamaican duo is once again expected to deliver an energetic and engaging performance at this year’s event and have admitted to having a few tricks and new releases up their sleeves.

Patrice Roberts, another sensational artiste and no stranger to the art form, will also join the event’s star studded line-up. With several hit songs under her belt, including collaborations with Machel Montano and the ever popular “A Little Wine”, written by our very own Problem Child, the spirited artiste has promised the Victoria Park will never be the same after her “lightning performance” at the Ultimate Storm.

Soca enthusiasts will be thrilled at the news that the legendary Fireman Hooper will take to the stage for the first time since his absence from last year’s Soca Monarch. In what can only be termed as a preview to the official Soca Monarch, fans are already buzzing that there is some friendly rivalry between Fireman Hooper and Skinny Fabulous, fuelled by public comments from both artistes at a recent press conference. Patrons are eagerly awaiting their performances at Soca Swing as an appetizer to Soca Monarch and it is becoming increasingly evident that a storm is brewing between the two giants.

Other members in the cast of titans include Luta, Bomani, Shaunelle McKenzie, Poorsah and Fyah Empress, all winning at least one title in the Carnival arena and consistently placing in the top positions throughout the years. Special attention must also be given to Shaunelle McKenzie and Fyah Empress, who are both determined to become the first female Soca Monarch winner in SVG and will undoubtedly pre-empt patrons with stellar performances at Soca Swing.

The event is sponsored by Hitz 103.7, Carib beer, distributed by Coreas Hazells Inc and the Buccament Bay Resort.
