Designer Tami B attends European Study Tour

St Vincent and the Grenadines was represented by Fashion Designer Tamiko Browne in the fashion sector during the recent CARIFORUM-EU Study Tour.{{more}}

The event was coordinated by Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) and financed by the European Commission, through the ACP Business Climate (Bizclim) Programme.

The objective of the study tour was to provide cultural industries with access to information and business contacts in the three EU markets selected. The experience helped companies to provide feedback to improve the enabling environment, in order to increase access to the market through the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the EU and CARIFORUM member states.

The mission took place from July 2 to 11, 2012, and participants were given the opportunity to engage potential clients, investors, distributors and partners from Europe. Tami B was invited to attend the Berlin Fashion Weeks such as Premier, Gallery, Eco & Ethical Fashion Shows, Bread & Butter, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Berlin and was a special guest at Giorgio Armani VIP Show/Cocktail Party in Fashion Week during her European Study Tour.

According to a release from Tami B, the company is in talks with Buyers & Agents to carry their clothing line. All companies were given much needed market intelligence in order to get their products ‘EU market-ready’. Some of the other representatives from the fashion sector were Trinidad and Tobago’s Meiling, Haiti’s David Andre, Barbados’ Andrea King, Antigua’s Jean-Marie Thomas and Jamaica’s Heneka Watkis-Porter.

The release said after the successful tour, Tami B Designs has been invited to participate in the second CARIFORUM-EU Business Forum in London in the month of August, during the Olympics. There will be several presentations made by the EU, CARIFORUM, CEDA, etc. A panel discussion will have the likes of Usain Bolt’s publicist – Carole Beckford, PUMA’s Director of Athletics – Pascal Rolling and many more. Under the theme, “Making the CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement Work”, the main objectives of the Business Forum are to create awareness about the EPA and to promote business opportunities within sectors that are readily positioned to do business in the EU. The Forum is also designed to enhance the level of trade and investment between CARIFORUM States and the EU. At the Business Forum, business persons and representatives from select business support organisations (BSOs) will be given the opportunity to engage potential clients, investors, distributors and partners from Europe, as well as business representatives from Africa and the Pacific to materialise the projects that would have been identified during the study tour.
