Jah Cure is pre-Valentine’s Day gift to SVG

To transform the entertainment industry and develop the talent that this country has to offer is the aim of Mr Matrix, the man behind an entity known as Matrix Music Group (MMG).{{more}}

The four-year-old Trinidad- based company will be officially launched here on February 11, with a concert, ‘Irresistible Temptation,’ featuring renowned Jamaican Reggae artiste Jah Cure, at the Victoria Park.

According to Mr Matrix himself, the show signals the official launch of the company here and will also serve as a pre-Valentine’s Day gift to the nation.

The company, though some may say it is in its infancy, has already put on concerts featuring some of the region’s top Reggae and Dancehall artistes, including Jah Vinci, Black Rhino, Merital Family, Gyptian and Jah Cure and organized youth events, known as Carnival College Mania that is currently ongoing for Trinidad and Tobago, as part of that country’s Carnival festivities.

But the idea of MMG is more than just about concert promotion.

“It’s a broadband company which deals with production, artiste development, artiste management – everything!” Mr Matrix said.

Mr Matrix told SEARCHLIGHT that a decision was made to come to St Vincent because of the abundance of musical talent that he says he knows exists here.

“I decided, knowing that St Vincent has a lot of talented artistes, to come over here and help to develop them and to help them reach the international market.”

He further explained that while there is only so much a record label can do, his ultimate goal is to develop the talent here, one person at a time.

“The thing is there are a lot of people who say that they can manage an artiste, but do they really know what it takes?” he said.

According to Mr Matrix, it involves more than just putting persons in the studio and putting them out there and he has what it takes, as long as the product has the potential to help that person make it.

Mr Matrix says that he is already assuring one local artiste the opportunity to collaborate with Jah Cure. He said that he is looking at doing that collaboration with local soca artiste, Tabia Matthews, who will also be featured among the local artistes down to perform.

The launch also features Soca/Reggae artiste Orlando Octave out of Trinidad.

Early bird tickets are available at $40 (US$15), with VIP tickets going for $130 (US$50) including all access backstage passes.

Mr Matrix said that he is offering something different and will be looking to develop all forms of talent in the country, not only on a musical level, but also in sport, dance and everything that involves talent.

“Persons can also look forward to a new world of entertainment, from old school straight up to new school,” he said. (DD)
