Canouan Carnival climaxes this weekend

Carnival activities on the Grenadine island of Canoaun are expected to culminate this weekend with the Soca Monarch competition and Miss Rural SVG pageant.{{more}}

Eight winners of the rural pageants which took place during Vincy Mas 2011will vie for the coveted crown at the Canouan Hard Court this Saturday night, in a show which will feature two of the season’s top performers Galanaire and Skarpyon.

The contestants are Kellon Telemaque representing Canouan; Kelise Haynes, Miss East St. George; Shackell Bobb, Miss Marriaqua; Jolesa James, Miss North Windward; Jovenne John, Miss South Leeward; Shellyann Ballantyne, Miss South Rivers; Nikianna Williams, Miss South Windward and Sherecia Chandler, Miss West St. George.

The pageant will be preceded by the Soca Monarch competition which takes place at the same venue today Friday, July 29, which will see seven artistes competing for the ragga soca crown and eight in the power soca category.

The events, which are organized by the Club Nuevo Organization in Canouan, launched the festivities last Saturday with a carnival lime, and continued last evening with night mas.

The celebrations climax on Sunday, July 31 with a wet fete, J’ouvert and street vibes.(JJ)
