On Sunday, June 26, 16 designers presented their collections at the Cruise Ship Terminal, much to the delight of a mixed audience.

They filled the venue with a combination of vivid colours and muted tones, a wide variety of fabrics, and influences from around the world – all brought to life by confident models who varied in sex and size.

The collections ranged from casual but stylish t-shirts and shorts to scintillating swimwear to elegant evening wear.

The designers hailed from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Guyana, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and Chicago, USA.

Eight Vincentian designers presented collections that showed they are capable of holding their own in the regional fashion industry.

They are: Alicia Simmons, of Alicia’s Creations; Brenda McIntosh-Iroha, of Afrobean; Naudica Williams-Todd, of Pinky’s Creationz; Brooke Legair; Donna Weekes, of Ethel Fashions; Sofilia Blucher, of Somache; Kimon Baptiste, of Kimmystic Clo; and Jeremy Payne, of Silky Ruff.

Of the bunch, Brooke Legair is a new-comer to the scene – this being her first presented collection. She also models with Mije.

Representing Guyana was Karen Joseph Ross’s ‘Fashion Designs’, Paula Evans, and Sonia Noel’s ‘Mariska’s Designs’.

Out of Barbados there was Andrew Harris Jr (Andrew Harris Collection), as well as Jackie Brathwaite (Special J Designs).

Sharleen Lagon brought a touch of St Lucia with creations from her ‘Jaeylu’ fashion label; and Shurnel Oliviere treated the audience to his Japanese-influenced designs from Trinidad and Tobago.

Celeste Johnny, a Chicago native with Vincentian parentage, presented her swimwear/resort wear collection under the label ‘Johnny Vincent’.

The crowd was entertained by soca artistes Delroy ‘Fireman’ Hooper and 2nd place Ragga Soca winner Orande ‘Bomani’ Charles.(JV)
