Gumbs, who hails from Vermont, attended the St. Mary’s RC prior to migrating to the USA. Following her crowning, she said was honoured and happy to have copped the title.

“It was definitely a great experience. Now I feel more in a position to inspire other young ladies and help them to feel good about themselves,” she pointed out.

“I see this as giving me the opportunity to meet other young ladies with the same drive and goal,” the newly crowned Miss CAC said.

For Gumbs, who aspires to be a nurse and later a lawyer, and whose premier aim is to defend persons with injustices in the medical field, sees her crown as a stepping stone.

Currently a student at the School for Human Rights at Wingate Campus in Brooklyn, NY, Gumbs is urging other young ladies to become involved and participate in such events.

Gumbs, who was adjudged the contestant with the Best Talent, also wants to help young persons work at building their self esteem and urged them to accept and appreciate what they have.

Kurtlyn Baker, who represented Guyana, took the First Runner-Up spot.

Baker took the Best Swimwear award and tied with Second Runner-Up Joleen Farrell, Miss Trinidad and Tobago, for the Best Evening

Wear.

The other contestant, Yanique Crawford, representing Jamaica, was named Miss Photogenic.

Co-ordinator Yvonne Peters reflecting on the pageant said:”The show was a success, with an added bonus to the show being the girls appearing in costumes from Mas Production Unlimited. This, a new feature, was very well received and was good for the show.”

“Despite the contestants being disqualified for being extremely late, it did not take away from the show,” Peters said of the fact that only four contestants competed.

The other contestants who were originally slated to appear were Knia Antoine, Grenada; Carla Francis, St. Lucia; and Tatianna John of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The pageant was hosted by the Antillian Sports and Cultural Club and Mariners Soccer Club. (RT)
