Exciting line-up for Uncle Skinny’s Kids’ Carnival

Exciting line-up for Uncle Skinny’s Kids’ Carnival

With an exciting line-up of soca artistes, an abundance of children’s favourite snacks, and a park-full of games and other entertainment,{{more}} Uncle Skinny’s Kids’ Carnival looks set to be “an event like no other” for the young and young-at-heart alike.

On Saturday, June 18, Victoria Park is set to be a hot-bed of thrilled faces, delighted squealing and sticky little fingers when the carnival comes to town.

The event will begin at 1pm, and feature a soca concert at 6pm, which is catered to the intended young audience.

Event organiser and soca artiste extraordinaire Gamal ‘Skinny Fabulous’ Doyle enthused: “It’s going to be one big night… a grand evening… Disney World-looking kind of thing!”

He added: “We guarantee no vulgarity and no obscenity of any form.”

The event will feature traditional games, such dips and punchboards, as well as the more modern – which include trampolining, roller coaster rides (for toddlers) and arcade games.

There will be a wide variety of entertainment, such as hourly candy tosses, clowns, magicians, bouncing castles, face painting and an arts/craft section.

Play areas will be separated according to age to avoid smaller children being trampled by the more rambunctious.

Doyle pointed out: “We all know that kids vary in size, aggression and energy.”

And as an extra measure of security, there will be 45 Red Cross volunteers present, a booth for children who have wandered from their parents, and children will not be allowed to enter or exit the venue without parental supervision.

The soca concert will feature Skinny Fabulous, Mr Fusion, Fire Empress, Galanaire, Columbian, Problem Child and Recka; and there will be performances from La Gracia Dance Company, Avenue Dancers, Arabesque Dance Company, Ground Breakers, Teeny Titans, Young Hanniff and pannist Saeed Bowman.

A programme of the event’s activities will be printed in the Searchlight Newspaper on Friday, June 17.

Kwame Mascoll, a representative from platinum sponsor Scotiabank, said that the financial institution is pleased to be “supporting opportunities for children and youth”.

“I applaud Skinny for using his popularity to be able to get children interested in the art form,” he said.

Mascoll, who noted that Scotiabank gave away $44 million in sponsorship last year, said that it will be giving away high-interest Junior Savings accounts with $100 deposits.

“We look forward to a wonderful day on the 18th… and look forward to many more,” he said.

“Scotiabank recognises the potential of this motivated group!”

Doyle shared that he will be using proceeds from the event to award Grade 6 scholarships to less fortunate children from six schools around the country – which he hopes to increase as the (anually intended) event becomes more popular.

He also revealed that he plans to turn this event into a more permanent structure with a fixed playground that children can go to with their families.

Tickets for the event cost $5 for children and $10 for adults; and are available at Singer, Kids Plus, Ocean View supermarket (Peruvian Vale), Mikey J’s Bar (Mesopotamia), Truncheon Groceries (Georgetown), Marty’s (Penniston) and Layou Supermarket.

Other sponsors include Seachlight Newspaper, Digicel, Singer, Karib Cable, Kiss Cakes, Hot 97.1 FM, Dekie’s Auto-zone, IK tv, Kiss Cakes, Sunny Events & Tours and GECCU.
