Elcitha Franklyn is the 2011 Miss Big and Beautiful Queen.

Franklyn, a resident of Barrouallie/Prospect, who represented Karibbean Tire, grabbed four of the seven categories{{more}} in the pageant, which took place on Friday, March 25, at the Cruise Ship Berth.

The voluptuous beauty won the Best Talent, Best African Wear, Best Interview, as well as Miss Congeniality.

“I am really happy for this. It means a lot to me, because I put a lot of effort into this show,” said an elated Franklyn, shortly after she was adjudged the winner.

Franklyn also won a cosmetology scholarship to attend the House of Jacqui in Trinidad and Tobago and a one year modelling contract with Shabeau Caribbean Magazine.

Emrist Hadaway, Miss Barnet’s Fair Hair Fashion, clinched the first runner-up spot, while Jacquelin Keir, Miss Uptown International, took the second runner-up position. In addition to the first runner-up spot, Hadaway won the Best Evening Wear category.

The Best Introductory Speech and Miss Photogenic awards went to Miss Square Deal Shippers, Kishmar Alexander.

The evening was spectacular, with each woman giving the lively audience a taste of their talent. A huge downpour of rain was the only hiccup, causing the show to start later than its scheduled time.

For her talent, Franklyn performed a short monologue, smartly depicting the recent rows in Parliament between members of the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) and police officers. She later topped off her performance with a song entitled: ‘Let there be peace on earth’.

Hadaway’s dress was certainly a hit with the audience as she sashayed her full figured body gracefully in a purple, strapless dress, with a long tail that swept the stage.

Her colleague, Keir, wooed the crowd with her beautiful rendition of the song, ‘Saving all my love’, which had the patrons singing along lustily with her.

Avalon Caesar, Miss Irvin Interior & Construction, for her talent, performed a monologue on the importance of using a condom when engaging in sexual intercourse and Nikiesha Ryan, Sel Investments Ltd., also performed a short monologue.

Kishmar Alexander, Square Deal Shippers, also did a monologue highlighting the importance of parents not allowing their children to be raised by music.

Entertainment on the night came from 2004 Miss Big and Beautiful winner, Kahalia Beache; former Miss SVG contestant and Star FM radio announcer, Shanel Nanton; Gideon James and the Urban Expressions dance group.
