SVG General Services Players wins Junior Band for fifth time

After all the parading and jumping to sweet soca music, two bands stood out from the rest and were awarded first for this year’s Junior Carnival last Saturday.{{more}}

For the fifth consecutive year, SVG General Services Players International made away with the Junior Band of the Year title. This year, however, they had to share the title with KFC Heineken Dragons Mas Camp. The Guinness Y DeLima Hitz Fm 103.7 Blondie Bird and Friends took the third place.

Heineken Dragons presented “Warriors, Myths and Ledgens,” SVG Players portrayed the “Myths of Eden”, while Blondie Birds and Friends paid tribute to the late Michael Jackson with their portrayal of “King of Pop-Tribute to Michael Jackson.”

The Junior Carnival competition, which took place at the Victoria Park on Saturday, June 27, 2010, saw thirteen bands competing for the top spots in seven categories of competition.

SVG General Services Players International dominated three of the seven categories, placing first in the Uptown Competition with their band “Myths of Eden.” The band placed first in the Junior Queen of Carnival category with Reneisha Rose portraying “Messenger of Light”, and securing the top spot in the Individuals 5-9 category with Shante Fraser portraying the creation “Shangri La.”

Guiness Y De Lima Hitz Fm 103.7 Blondie Bird and Friends “Wizard of Oz” portrayed by Jelani Niles took the top spot for Junior King of Carnival, while KFC Heineken Dragons Mas Camp and the SVG General Services Players International tied for second place with their creations “Gladiator Warrior” portrayed by Jasper Alexander and “Valhalla” portrayed by Modassa James, respectively. First Caribbean We FM KBB Shipping Singer Lynx took the fourth spot, with Kelvin Wilson portraying “Bird of a Feather Flock together.”

KFC Heineken Dragons Mas Camp took the first and fourth positions in the Best Junior Band section with their portrayal “Mongolian” and “Roman Ledgens”, respectively. SVG General Services Players International took the second and third positions with their portrayal “The Herald” and “The Messenger”, respectively, while Guiness Y De Lima Hitz FM 103.7 Blondie Bird and Friends rounded out the top five with their portrayal “We are the World.”
