‘Maddzart planning to stay on top of the King Road’

‘Maddzart planning to stay on top of the King Road’

He says that he is ready to defend one of the first crowns up for grabs in Vincy Mas 2010, while his sights are also set on two of the final titles to be awarded this season.{{more}}

Reigning Ragga Soca monarch Raeon ‘Maddzart’ Primus puts this title up against 14 other artistes, as Carnival action finally gets on a roll this evening at Victoria Park.

The leader of the highly talented and busy Madd Symphony band which took the title last year with his song ‘Is Me Friend’ is expected to perform the crowd pleaser ‘Wine Pon Me’ and thinks he has a good chance of holding off the contenders.

“I am just going to go out and give the fans a good time and do the best that I can possibly do,” Primus indicated in a phone interview with SEARCHLIGHT.

“Wine pon me is one of the more popular songs; it is highly requested when we perform so I think the chances for me are very good.”

Maddzart will have to stave off challenges from top class acts such as Orande ‘Bomani’ Charles, Gareth ‘Icon’ John, Tabia Matthews, Kevin ‘KC’ Charles, Derron ‘Full Clip’ Dennie, Tisa Providence, Orlando ‘Syxx’ Forster, Andy ‘Cloud’ James, Shernelle ‘Skarpyon’ Williams, Kosinski ‘Busta Ski’ Adams, Bernice ‘Empress Mamba’

Nedd, Jason ‘Galanaire’ Bess, Oscar James and Delroy

‘Fireman’ Hooper in this evening’s finals.

This evening’s Ragga Soca finals will also feature artistes from the LIME Soca Dans, as well as international soca artiste Allison Hinds.

When not performing with his band this season, Maddzart will be attempting to regain the Soca Monarch title which he once held in 2004.

The July 3 event, which is considered the highest anticipated show of the season, is expected to bring out the best of its finalists, and Maddzart hopes that the momentum that his song ‘The King Road’ is picking up throughout the season will put him in good standing not only for when he attempts to dethrone Gamal ‘Skinny Fabulous’ Doyle, but also for the Road March title, which has remained elusive from the artiste who has been in the business for more than a decade.

“Well, the song (The King Road) win road march in P’tani carnival over the weekend and that is a good thing… I want to win road march and I think that this song will do it for me… everybody love the song.”

But before Maddzart can achieve this goal, he admits that he has to focus now on that task at hand, but is savoring the thought of taking three of the top titles in one year.

“I just want to invite all my fans to Victoria Park and show their support whenever I am performing. It’s the fans, management and the band that is making this possible, and with their support I can go far.”
