John is Miss SVG Teen Model 2009
Jaylana John was clearly the crowd favourite in this yearâs Miss SVG Teen Model competition, and she did not disappoint.
John walked away with the crown last Saturday, May 9, at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex, leaving the four other contestants in her dust, as she and her huge bandwagon took the title to South Rivers.{{more}}
âI feel marvelous,â is what the 14-year-old second former of the George Stephens Secondary School told SEARCHLIGHT after the show.
John said that the vocal, enthusiastic support from her supporters, who converged close to the stage every time she made an appearance, calmed her nerves and âmade (her) feel much better.â
The aspiring accountant has already sent out the warning that in a few years time, the South Rivers army will be descending on Victoria Park when she competes for the Miss SVG crown.
In addition to the overall crown, John won the best prom wear category, beautifully showing off the lovely teal dress that she designed herself.
She also won the important best promotional speech category, where she, decked out in carnival costume, spoke glowingly of Vincy Mas.
The best cheerleading category went to The Intermediate High Schoolâs Vanessa Williams, who finished second.
Third place went to Alverna Peters of the Emmanuel High School.
Fleur Blugh and Zanique Mc Millan of the Bishopâs College and Dr JP Eustace Secondary schools were the other competitors who vied to be the sixth Miss SVG Teen.
The show, which was hosted by Angenella Young and her Le Andre Modeling Agency, also featured a face-off between three young, upcoming designers, which was won by Shenicia Mayers, a student of the Technical and Vocational Division of the Community College.(KJ)
