Icon, whose real name is Garett John, told SEARCHLIGHT, that he was enthusiastic about competing against artistes like, Alla-G, Madzart, Zoelah, Lady D and even newcomer Jimmy, but he didn’t expect to win.

Icon said that he has been taking part in competitions for the past five years and his knack for moving the crowd comes from performing at talent searches. Icon said that he will not be doing more than five songs this year, although he has already done some combinations with Kevin Lyttle, Dalpin, Elegance and First Lady. He will also be writing for other artistes.

This year, with his winning number, “Congo Line”, Icon hopes to do well, although he said that he will wait until hatching, before he counts his chickens. Last year, Icon won the Road March title with his hit ‘Two knee’. He also placed third in the Soca Monarch competition.

In the next five years, Icon is looking forward to seeing Vincy music take the international arena by storm: “We have the talents and the hunger, we just have to learn the business,” he said.(AC)
