At the opening ceremony, Minister of Culture René Baptiste, congratulated PSCS for its continued sponsorship of the festival over the years. She stated that students’ senses are developed when they participate in the festival, as they have to “learn the art of listening, speaking and reading”.

Minister Baptiste told the students that everything they learn is a “life long lesson” and they must do their very best.

Representative of Professional Secretarial and Consultancy Services, Lucia Small, believes that participation in the festival will develop the confidence and self- esteem of students. Small expressed that the performing arts can help our students to be “analytical about society and its problems.” She said the festival has grown from “strength to strength” and her company will continue to support the activities.

Cultural Officer Anthony Theobalds and acting Senior Education Officer Jacqueline Glasgow Browne also addressed the gathering.

CW Prescod and Kingstown Preparatory Schools showcased their talent in spite of a power failure. The festival is scheduled to continue for the rest of the month and will see presentations from schools throughout the country. (VM)
