Film and Fashion Exhibition launched

In an effort to showcase Vincentian creativity, Minister of Culture René Baptiste has implemented the first travelling exhibition of art, film and fashion to be held in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).{{more}}

The event opened on Sunday, January 25, at the Peace Memorial Hall, but the Minister didn’t attend, as she was delayed in Bequia, so event coordinator Anthony Theobalds spoke on her behalf.

Over 20 pieces of art by various artistes were on display, and two short films and a mid-length one set in Jamaica were shown.

Monique Tash of Image Modeling Agency, co-ordinated the fashion segment of the show. However, other agencies, such as Mije Personal Development and Advertising Agency, Blue Angels Personal Development Agency and Le Andre Modeling Agency, also participated.

The clothing line was inspired by the various influences that makes up the Vincentian culture potpourri, including the French, Portuguese, English, Indian and African.

The designers who showcased their lines were Kimya Glasgow Designs, Jeremy Payne, Karen De Freitas, Lisa Cordice, Sherika Sayers and Authentic Africana and Natural Beats provided the jewellery.

Kimya Glasgow, who choreographed the fashion show, told SEARCHLIGHT that the initiative by Minister Baptiste was a most welcome one, and that the clothing displayed was light, wearable and fun, even though influenced by by-gone eras. The exhibition will travel throughout the island and will return to the Peace Memorial Hall today, Friday, February 6.
