Starlift back with a bang

After a year’s absence from Dimanche Gras competition, Sea Operations Starlift Steel Orchestra is once again the national Panorama Champions.

The pan side, which last won the title in 2006, played a near perfect rendition of “Vincy Mas” arranged and composed by Errol Josiah Peters.{{more}}

The 41-year-old pan side captained by Kennedy Taylor paid tribute to one of its deceased members Andrew “Trumpet” Johnson, who passed away in November last year.

Starlift scored 245 points, five points more than the second placed National Lotteries Authority Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra, which played a cover of De Rebel band’s “Doh Rub Up On Me So”.

Placing third were Potential Steel Orchestra with 229 points.

They played “Carnival” by Winston Soso.

Five bands took part in the Panorama competition; last year’s winner Digicel Rhythmix, which played “Happily Married” by De Man Age and Elite Steel Orchestra performing Shaunell Mackenzie’s “A Pan A Pan” were the other two finalists.
