Corcel Grant takes Miss North Leeward crown

Modesty may not be a popular trait among beauty queens but

21-year-old Corcel Grant says she had no expectations of winning the Miss North Leeward title, “I only entered to have fun and meet people”, she said.{{more}}

From among five beauties representing the various communities of North Leeward, Corcel was mobbed on stage by her over jubilant fellow Spring Villagers in the wee hours of last Saturday morning at the Petit Bordel hard court.

Corcel walked away with the best talent segment, while second runner up Shemika Matthews representing Petit Bordel won the best evening wear and interview segments. Veronique Williams representing Chateaubelair won the people’s choice award and the best swim wear category. Alisha Jack of Rose Bank was judged Miss Congeniality while Miss Fitz Hughes Shanese Victory was judged Miss Photogenic.

Miss North Leeward 2008 says she has no plans to enter another beauty pageant but will make herself available to any young lady from her community who aspires to enter a beauty pageant. Her advice to the other young people is to follow their dreams and reach for the sky.

The attractive lass who falls under the sign of Taurus attended the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College but transferred to the School of Nursing where she will begin training in September to become a registered nurse.

The North Leeward carnival is said to be the hottest rural carnival and was sponsored by bMobile.

Last Saturday in the J’Ouvert

which began at 6:00 am, revelers partied from Petit Bordel to Fitzhughes then back to the Sharpes Park. The evening jump-up saw the likes of Fireman Hooper, Jamesy P, Luther and Danny O among others performing on trucks.
