East St George Carnival a success

Last weekend East St George celebrated its carnival and the bMobile Jump Up on Saturday was the definite high point of this year’s activities. Despite some mechanical problems, revelers jumped and at some times pushed the truck along the route, but enjoyed themselves totally.{{more}}

The Miss East St. George pageant held on the Friday night at Club 40/40 was won by Natasha Layne. First Runner-up was Timora Peters, followed by Nateisha Fraser in third position. The other two contestants were Allana Kydd and Monel Charles who got the Miss Photogenic award.

In the Soca competition, first place went to Faylicia “Fay Fay” John with her song Posse on the Road. Second was Winston “Iston” Lewis with “Hip Hip”, third place went to Leon “Deportee” Simon with “Do it Do it”.

In the calypso competition, Gasnel “GC” Cupid was victorious. He was followed by Stranger in second position and Chico B in third position.

However it was the bMobile Jouvert and Street Jump Up brought the people of Calliaqua to the streets. The jump up also saw performances by the bMobile Soca Dans which included Caliaqua’s very own Luta, “The Crowd Motivator”.

Head of Marketing, Fitzgerald Huggins, who was at the jump up, stated that the event was an overall success. “The people of Calliaqua surely know how to enjoy themselves despite a few minor setbacks. We at Cable and Wireless will definitely be supporting Calliaqua carnival over the next three years. The bMobile Vincy Soca Dans are also doing themselves and us proud with fantastic performances at every event and we are really happyt hat they are on board with us for the season.”

Next week the bMobile family will be in 3 other rural carnivals Bequia, Mespo and North Leeward. The bMobile Vincy Soca Dans will also be unveiling their Monday T Shirt band for 2008, Shock n’ Awe: Reloaded, which is expected to be the biggest T Shirt Band on the road for Carnival Monday.
