bMobile takes over Heritage Square

13.JUNE.08

Heritage Square was transformed into the bMobile square on Friday June 6 as the official telecommunication provider for Vincy Mas hosted its Launch. Activities started during the day with DJ music and prize giveaways by the telecommunications provider.{{more}}

As the sun began to set on the Friday afternoon, however, Heritage Square burst into action with DJ Tarrus, one of the bMobile Vincy Soca Dans getting the already sizeable crowd into the Carnival spirit. The band Hottsand was not to be outdone, as they warmed up with a few guest artsites such as Busta Ski, DJ 20, Bunny Rebel, who was fully decked out in his bMobile suit. Other performers who happened to be in the crowd also were given the chance to come on stage to

make short appearances, including popular entertainer “Splectron” who had the crowd singing along to his brand new soca track. Hottsand’s cast of members then took over the show, with their lead singers Syxx, Johnny Rebel and their female vocalist Shanelle out of Trinidad whipping the crowd into a frenzy with hit after hit.

Although she may have missed the official segment of the show where speeches were given by the Cable & Wireless Chief Executive, Angus Steele and the CEO of the CDC, Ashford Wood, the Minister of Culture, René Baptiste surely made up for it as she surprised not only the patrons but many of the organizers by giving a live rendition of Becket’s timeless tune “Vincy Mas”.

“I think the Minister just stole the show”, one patron at the show said, “I don’t think anyone would believe she still had it in her”. The Minister decked from head to toe in bMobile gear encouraged the persons at Heritage Square to enjoy the Carnival but to be safe and adhere to the “No Bottle Policy”, which is in full effect for the season.

The climax of the show, however, was the grand finale which brought the much anticipated bMobile Vincy Soca Dans to the stage. Out front was Luta, the crowd motivator, who surely lived up to his name alongside Jalena. Luta’s hit song for 2008, “Muevete”, as well as others such as Mas on the Road and previous hits such as “Dingolay” had the whole of Heritage Square throwing arms in the air and enjoying the party. Not to be outdone, Jalena seemed to be dropping hints with her song “Mr. Boring Flex” and Tabia was “Feeling It” when she made her stage debut. The President DJ Tarrus also headed to the stage and not behind his usual DJ turntables but put in a good show with his hits “Energy” and “Represent”. However, as always the show was stolen by six time Soca Monarch, Delroy “Fireman” Hooper, who had all of Heritage Square clapping their hands before he got everyone “mad” with a steady flow of big hits from his very successful career.

Cable & Wireless will be sponsoring Vincy Mas for the next three years and continues to be a big supporter of Culture and community spirited activities here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
