St. Vincent Brewery sponsors rural Carnival

Vincentians have been called upon to support the rural Carnivals scheduled for this year. The call came from St. Vincent Brewery Ltd. Sales Representative Vance Garraway as he announced his organization’s sponsorship of these events.{{more}} He said that these smaller festivals are an integral part of Carnival in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and his organization had decided to put more effort into their sponsorship.

On Wednesday May 14, representatives of six different rural organizations announced their plans for this year’s festivities at a press conference at the Brewery’s headquarters at Campden Park.

This Friday, both the Barrouallie and East St. George Carnivals will be launched. The Barrouallie action, which will take place at the Barrouallie park, will continue on July 11th and 12th with a Queen Show and Jump up. The Culture Pot Square in Calliaqua is the venue for the launch of the East St. George action tonight. Their Carnival will climax over the June 13th – 15th weekend with a Queen Show, J’Ouvert, Street party and a costume parade for children.

Next weekend, May 25th, the North Windward Carnival Committee will launch their Carnival with activities focused on children. Their Carnival will continue over the weekend of June 6th, with a Queen Show, soca monarch competition and street party.

There will also be Carnival action in Layou next week when that town’s Carnival Committee launches their activities on May 23rd. Their Queen Show will be held on June 20th.

The North Leeward Carnival will be launched on June 1, and will climax over the weekend of June 20th, when a Queen Show and Jump up will be held.

South Leeward Carnival will take place over the June 20 – 22nd weekend.

Two other rural carnivals have already been launched. South Windward on April 26th, and Marriaqua, last Friday May 9th.

Esworth “Ezzie” Roberts, Rural Carnival Coordinator thanked the Brewery on behalf of the Carnival Development Corporation for their sponsorship. He said that in the past, the main hurdle faced by rural Carnival Committees was a shortfall of cash. The Brewery’s contribution this year, he said, has made a major difference. The Brewery donated approximately $10,000 to the rural Carnival Committees.
