Sutherland, Russell win Face of Shabeau

The crowd erupted in thunderous applause as Odini Sutherland and Andrew Russell were named St. Vincent and the Grenadines representatives in the regional ‘Face of Shabeau’ competition, at the International Aquatic Club on Saturday.{{more}}

Sutherland scooped a double victory when she received the female People’s Choice award. Steveon Taylor was the male People’s Choice winner.

Male runner up Godwin Charles gave Russell a run for his money, as he was one of the crowd favourites. He displayed a certain flamboyance and cheekiness that was only outshone by Russell’s consistency and experience. Likewise, the female runner up Sherina Slater gave Sutherland a chase. However, Sutherland’s vast modelling experience ensured that the title was hers for the taking.

With a prompt 8pm start, seven young men and seven young women began competing for the coveted titles. They were judged in the categories of Photography, Interview, Swimwear, The Trend is Denim and ‘Kimya Glasgow’ Formal wear.

The contestants sashayed down the catwalk in a variety of apparel. Naturally, the men’s swimwear section was a hit with the predominantly female audience, especially as two of the male contestants were attired in swim trunks that left little to the imagination.

The progression of the show was as well oiled as the models’ bodies. The only fly in the ointment was a too-lengthy intermission, resulting in a restless and slightly agitated crowd. However, high spirits resumed once the lights dimmed and the models returned to stage.

The high spirits carried over to Xcape bar, where the after party was held. Models mingled with the audience. They received congratulations from friends and well -wishers and partied into the wee hours of the morning.

Image Models provided entertainment throughout the show with a bmobile fashion show. The strutting and posturing was a sure sign that the audience might see some of their faces in next year’s competition.
