Tribes mas band after Band of the Year title

ANOTHER MAS BAND has thrown its hat into the ring, announcing their intention to dethrone last year’s band of the year champions SVG Players International.

Recently at the Bay View car park, St. Lucian born mas man Fernando Serieux and his band `Digicel/DHL Tribes’ unveiled their drawings for Vincy Mas 2007 with their presentation entitled “Simply Beautiful”.{{more}}

Serieux says that he hopes the third time would be the charm for his crew after making a guest appearance in Junior Carnival in 2005 and placing 9th last year to rave reviews.

He noted that the concept for this year’s presentation was to highlight a number of naturally beautiful things that people love, hence the six adult and three children’s sections with names like `Diamonds’, `Caribbean Sunset’, `Butterflies’, `Rainbow’ and `Evergreen’.

Serieux, who has been involved in mas for almost ten years, expects about 500 persons in the band this year, including a number of St. Lucians who would be coming over for Vincy Mas.

The designs were drawn by Shane Cherlery, another St. Lucian. Serieux is assisted by Sean Frederick, Joslyn Providence, Melissa Serieux and a number of other band members.

The band will be accompanied on the road by Dynamic Guys, and the mas tent is situated at Lower Bay Street next to the Banana Growers Association office.
