Naked Roots delights public

THE TURN OUT of participants at the Naked Roots’ Garifuna Freedrum Talk proves that drumming is here to stay, and that the future of drumming in St. Vincent and the Grenadines is in good hands.{{more}}

Over 200 drummers turned out on Thursday, from far and wide to take part in the group’s contribution to the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the Trans Atlantic Slave trade.

The enthusiastic and dynamic group of performers assembled at the Peace Memorial Hall before their carnival type procession to the Old Public Library, where the 12 groups performed to the delight of spectators.

Group leader Nzimbu Browne indicated that the event was a very successful one and hinted that the group has a number of other activities planned for the upcoming months.

These include events in August to celebrate Emancipation Day, as well as Independence celebrations and nine morning activities.
