The pressure is on to be the next Digicel Rising Star and from last Saturday’s performance the anxiety may be playing on the nerves of the three remaining competitors in the competition.

The show, which had a guest appearance by Dominica’s electrifying Michele Henderson, was dubbed “Love, Island and Classic” with all the finalists singing a song that reflected each of the categories.{{more}}

Omar Mathurin of Antigua performed excellently Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing”, Morgan Heritage’s “She’s My One and Only” and Louis Armstrong’s “What a wonderful World” but was criticised for staying in what the judges described as “his comfort zone” by doing songs that best suited his voice and failed to show his versatility.

Tanya Clarke of Barbados however bravely ventured into pieces from Diana Ross’ “When You Tell Me that You Love Me” and struggled with some of the high notes. She then forcefully came back with her island category with Singing Sandra’s “Die With My Dignity” but seemed to have problems hearing the music for her Opera piece, “Time to say goodbye” by Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli, but did her best to execute the rendition.

Local favourite Kyron Baptiste also struggled in the Love category with Luther Vandross’ “I’d Rather” but made a strong come back in the island segment with Machel Montano and Vagas’s “Dance with You.”

Judge Vynette Frederick pointed out that Baptiste showed tremendous versatility by being able to sing both pieces with equal authority and radio personality, The Serpent, commended the Vincentian for making an excellent recovery in his second performance.

Baptiste climaxed his act with Gnarls Barkely’s “Crazy” and got the auditorium in frenzy when he threw his jacket into the audience.

The next show, which airs on Sunday November 12 from 9 pm on SVG TV, will be a showdown between the final two contestants to see who would win the Digicel Rising Star title, a Publishing and Management Contract along with a whopping US$10,000 in cash.

To text Kyron Baptiste’s into the top spot, Digicel phone users must text or phone the number 7802.
