Kyron Baptiste- heading for the stars
The pressure is on to be the next Digicel Rising Star and from last Saturdayâs performance the anxiety may be playing on the nerves of the three remaining competitors in the competition.
The show, which had a guest appearance by Dominicaâs electrifying Michele Henderson, was dubbed âLove, Island and Classicâ with all the finalists singing a song that reflected each of the categories.{{more}}
Omar Mathurin of Antigua performed excellently Marvin Gayeâs âSexual Healingâ, Morgan Heritageâs âSheâs My One and Onlyâ and Louis Armstrongâs âWhat a wonderful Worldâ but was criticised for staying in what the judges described as âhis comfort zoneâ by doing songs that best suited his voice and failed to show his versatility.
Tanya Clarke of Barbados however bravely ventured into pieces from Diana Rossâ âWhen You Tell Me that You Love Meâ and struggled with some of the high notes. She then forcefully came back with her island category with Singing Sandraâs âDie With My Dignityâ but seemed to have problems hearing the music for her Opera piece, âTime to say goodbyeâ by Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli, but did her best to execute the rendition.
Local favourite Kyron Baptiste also struggled in the Love category with Luther Vandrossâ âIâd Ratherâ but made a strong come back in the island segment with Machel Montano and Vagasâs âDance with You.â
Judge Vynette Frederick pointed out that Baptiste showed tremendous versatility by being able to sing both pieces with equal authority and radio personality, The Serpent, commended the Vincentian for making an excellent recovery in his second performance.
Baptiste climaxed his act with Gnarls Barkelyâs âCrazyâ and got the auditorium in frenzy when he threw his jacket into the audience.
The next show, which airs on Sunday November 12 from 9 pm on SVG TV, will be a showdown between the final two contestants to see who would win the Digicel Rising Star title, a Publishing and Management Contract along with a whopping US$10,000 in cash.
