When the Principal of the C.W. Prescod Primary School, Mr. Orde Ballantyne appealed to Digicel for help to manage the many mobile phone calls that the school is required to make from time to time, he didn’t realize that his school was going to be the recipient of new technology.

When one hears of cell phones, immediately there is an image of a small, sleek device that is very portable. {{more}}Today with the demand for cellular service increasing, some people are looking for a device that is more in keeping with the regular home phone which can be used in the office or home.

Such a device is available and the C.W. Prescod Primary School is the first institution with a desktop GSM phone.

‘When we looked at the number of cell phone calls we have to make in order to stay in touch with the parents of our students,’ principal Ballantyne said, ‘we realized that the majority of the numbers were Digicel and so we thought we should appeal to Digicel for some assistance in at least providing a handset.’

Digicel responded by providing the school with this new state of the art handset and credit for them to get started.

The presentation was made by Digicel’s Public Relations Manager for the OECS, Jerry George at a school assembly on Monday, February 6.

On receiving the phone, Mr. Ballantyne expressed his appreciation for the prompt response received from the company.

The C.W. Prescod Primary School can now be contacted at 532 2608.
