Vincy lass is Miss Miami Carnival 2005

Vincentians in Miami stood tall last September 18 when Typhani Mattis emerged the winner of the Miss Miami Carnival Pageant.

Typhani, the daughter of Vincentian parents Grafton and Sheri Linley Mattis paid a fitting tribute to her parenting when asked during the question and answer segment if there was anything she’d change about her life she proclaimed proudly: “My life is a journey, filled with experiences and circumstances, all of which make me the individual that I am today. {{more}}If I could go back in time I will change nothing, for it’s these experiences and circumstances that make me a phenomenal woman.”

The Miss Miami Carnival competition was judged in four categories, evening wear, talent, question and answer and costume.

But it was perhaps Typhani’s superb singing which captured the hearts of the audience and the judges as she put on a classy performance.

Typhani grabbed the audience out of their seats with her sweet melodic tone and stage performance . Then during the costume segment she emerged in a costume sponsored by Radikal Mas Group which includes her Uncle Tony, revealing her face, ever so gracefully from behind a hand held mask and with confidence stepped into the light, with a deep strong bow to the judges and audience in costume and head dress.

It was to Typhani’s credit that she won this show since all the participants were of a high standard. But she brought a lot to bear on the show. After graduating one of South Florida’s prestigious high schools this young lady entered the University of Florida at age 18 where as a Sophomore she

majors in Computer Engineering and made the Dean’s list during her Freshman year.

Typhani will represent Miami at Trinidad and Tobago Carnival for 2006.
