Vincies protest local win

It was testimony to the fairness of Vincentian audiences that when Miss St.Vincent and the Grenadines was announced the winner of the Miss Carival 2005 show, many shouted loudly their disapproval.

The reaction was hardly against the local entrant and winner Casynella Ollivierre. She had entered the show with strong backing from the home crowd after she was a popular choice qualifying the represent SVG at this level from the Miss SVG show on May 28.{{more}}

And when Casynella made her introductory appearance the applause from her home crowd was thunderous. But when later on, amidst a very high standard of talent performances from the visiting contestants the local lass came up short, after experiencing difficulties with her costume during an arguably poorly choreographed dance routine, the home crowd was silenced.

Many had given up hope that the title, which last stayed home in 2003, would return to St.Vincent and the Grenadines. After all, the home girl had strong competition from several others.

But the judges’ points had it otherwise and the home crowd showed their disapproval loudly.

The final point standings showed Miss SVG winning in three categories: Best Swimwear, Best Interview and Best Evening Gown in which she tied with Miss Lucia Tricia Swartz.

First runner up was Miss Grenada Agnes Seales while Miss St.Lucia was 2nd runner up.

The other contestants were Miss St. Kitts Nevis, Johan Kelly, who was also adjudged Miss Photogenic; Miss Guyana Decia Blackmore who won the Best Talent category; Miss Bahamas, Denia Nixon; Miss British Virgin Islands, Sharlita Richards; Miss Dominican Republic, Yilda Nunez and Trinidad and Tobago Louanna Laurie.
