Miss SVG beauties meet SEARCHLIGHT

The Miss SVG show is one of the most anticipated shows of its kind in this country. And not surprisingly so, since at stake is not only the chance to be treated like royalty, as an official ambassador for the country for a whole year, but also of gaining a university scholarship. That latter benefit was instituted for the first time in 2004 with Jevorne Williams being the first such recipient.

SEARCHLIGHT’s Sheron Garraway spoke with the nine 2005 entrants when they made an official media appearance at Young Island on April 9. Nelicia Rodriquez, 18 of Rockies. Employed as a Junior Clerk at the Service Commissions Department. {{more}}

• You would like to become a performer, why?

I would like to become a singer and an actress, but for now I would love to pursue studies in business.

• A singer and actress, why?

Well I grew up in church and I had a passion for singing and people complimented me, so I said that I would work on it and be that singer. I love Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, the three greatest women who really can sing.

• Is there anything on your mind that you would like to set out to do?

I would like to just be positive and be focused to bring home the crown for Miss SVG and then Miss Carival.

• What were you like growing up?

Oh boy! Growing up I was like a follower around my cousins because I was an only child for nine years. But I was really a Tom Boy.”

• Is there anything that you would like to tell the public?

Give us a listening ear; don’t be so quick to criticize, so that we can be positive and give a better SVG 2005 pageant.

• When you’re not at working what are you like?

I am either at the movies by myself, because I don’t like company that much, or I would be at home listening music all the day long just to feel relaxed, and I would be singing along.

• When you sing at church how do you feel?

On top of the world!

• What is it that you love about yourself?

I am a persevering person, any difficulty I would love to just conquer and do what I have to do to mash it up. That’s what I love about me.
