The Emmanuel High School Kingstown student hit high notes at Dano’s Restaurant and Bar last Sunday with her songs “Hit Me Baby One More Time” from Britney Spears and the reggae classic “One Love” from Bob Marley.

Fifth in the competition was Nathalie Cabral, with Gordon “Zemi” Joseph and Paul Smart coming in fourth and third respectively. Elson Millington was second.

Layne said that winning the competition has given her the confidence to take part in other shows. She said she has been a member of the Calliaqua Anglican Church Choir for a very long time, hence her skills as a singer.

Layne is a member of the Calliaqua Karaoke Grovers, which is run by Rohan Morgan. She hopes to continue singing and is currently savouring her victory.

She received her first prize of EC$350, a trip to Barbados and a trophy last Wednesday at Dano’s by president of the SVG Karaoke Club Jeffrey “Snuffy” Martin.
