De Diva aiming high

She was born Rebecca Maranda Davis on March 10, 1979 in Dauphne, but these days the 25-year-old singer prefers to be called “Rebecca De Diva”.{{more}}

The talented songstress, who honed her skills as a member of the Glad Tidings Tabernacle Church choir in Gomea now sings ragga soca, even taking part in the ragga soca competition this year.

The songsmith said she has written 15 songs and is currently working on two more. Two of her more popular tunes include “Stay With Me Tonight”, “Loving You Now” and the New Direction remake of “Sad Sad”.

De Diva has worked with producers such as Jeffrey Ledger and Mark Cyrus, but is currently hooked up with Zoe “Great Z” Stapleton of Hysanz Records. She was also a member of both Bequia bands New Direction and Twilight. Her voice can also be heard on the Triple A theme song “Join Hands Together” and is also featured on a Hysanz compilation with Skinny Fabulous and Crazy.

Although dedicated to singing and song writing, De Diva has also found time out to take part in a few beauty shows. She took the best talent and the first runner-up positions in the 1989 Miss West St. George show. Her talent was Whitney Houston’s “The Greatest Love of All”.

De Diva entered the Miss SVG show in 2000 and copped the best talent prize for her rendition of Celine Deon’s Titanic theme “My Heart Will Go On”. During the 2000 Miss Carival show the songbird sang the national anthem.

She also took part in the Miss Independence Pageant in 2002 and was a first runner-up in a show dubbed Mr. and Mrs. African.

Fresh off from her first contract on one of Carnival Cruise Lines ships “Sensation” as a lead singer with the band ‘Tropical Vibes”, this singer hopes to cut her tunes and move on with her career.

She is currently working on a song entitled “Dog Eat Dog”, a reggae tune with lyrics that include, “born an innocent baby girl, found myself in a dog eat dog world; see people fighting for diamonds and pearls”.

De Diva is the daughter of Leonard and Claudette Davis and she has six sisters and four brothers.
