Reggae Silver Lining not so glittering

Another show of lack of support for local entertainers has surfaced here. This was last Saturday night, where top local reggae performers were expected to grace the stage of “The Reggae Silver Lining” show at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex.

A paltry crowd was left with little to be happy about, after a full three-hour delay ensued before the start of the evening’s event. {{more}}

Yaphato opened the silver anniversary celebration gala with his popular number “Concrete Jungle”. He continued gracefully with a rendition of new tracks pulled from his music chest. He was later joined on-stage by Elvis “Root”’ Gordon with back-up music provided by opening band SVG Rage. By that time, the small crowd had taken refuge in the stands, anxiously waiting for the main show to get going.

Abuzah took his turn on-stage and, as usual, his performance lived up to the crowd’s expectations. Armed with his trade mark guitar, his melodies brought to life the remnants of a tired and frustrated crowd. They rose to their feet again as they gathered enough strength to show solidarity with the local performer.

Qshan Dia, the man of the moment, was well worth the effort, and the long wait. His majestic entrance recalled the likes of a Luciano or an Anthony B. reaching out spiritually to his audience with an inspiring opening, which saw him honouring local radio personality Randy D for his contribution to local music over the years.

With full support from local reggae band Valley Jazz, Qshan Dia pulled the curtains down on yet another poorly supported locally organised event.

Though the show had a few hiccups, the call is still being made for support for local talent and their efforts towards providing entertainment.
