Kimeisha is Miss GHS Heritage

The Social Sciences Department of the Girls’ High School recently concluded a month of activities in celebration of Heritage Month, which ran from October 1st – 31st.

On October 18th, Decima Hamilton spoke to the student body on the significance of independence. On October 26th, the students prepared a variety of local dishes which were sold at the school. That same day, there was a cultural extravaganza where students performed various items.{{more}}

These activities culminated with the staging of the Miss GHS Heritage Pageant, held on Saturday, 30th October at the Peace Memorial Hall. This year saw an increase in the number of contestants from seven last year to nine.

Kimeisha Bailey, a third form student and aspiring teacher, appeared as Miss Hibiscus Sunrise and won the title in convincing style. She also won the Best Interview category, during which she stated that one of the most important qualities a teacher must possess is patience. This has been the second pageant that Kimeisha has entered. In 2004, she placed 2nd in the Miss Teen Model Competition.

First runner-up in the Miss GHS Heritage Pageant was Shara George appearing as Miss Feathered Kaleidoscope. She was also named Miss Photogenic. Second runner-up was Sheena Bailey, Miss La Soufriere, who also won the Best National Dress category. Erica Da Silva, Miss Colours of Independence, was Miss Congeniality while Shemoria Isaacs had the best talent. Nadia Black, Miss Vincy Sunset, was judged the most improved contestant over the training period by the Image Modelling Agency who was responsible for the training of the contestants.

The other contestants were Tisa Providence, Miss Vincy Nights, Rae-Anne McDowall, Miss Trinity Falls, and Nackiesha Jack, Miss Falls of Baleine.

Former head of the Social Sciences Department, Bronty Williams, and producer of the pageant, Krystal Robertson, were quite pleased with this year’s production. They had special words of appreciation for Vynnette Fredericks and Khalil “Gruv Master” Cato who rocked the Peace Memorial Hall with their hilarity.

Two well-known dance groups – the Avenues Dancers and the Heavy Hitterz Dance Group – made guest appearances while the GHS models and salsa dancers also did their part to contribute to the success of the pageant. Skinny Fabulous and Amanda Quow also enticed the audience with their upbeat singing and dancing.

Headmistress of the Girls’ High School, Andrea Bowman, had high praises for the Social Sciences Department and was quite impressed with the performance of the girls.
