Peace Mo, Government House get pianos

Two years ago, when Sir Frederick Ballantyne took up Governor General’s duties, he promised a different stewardship, and some persons were perplexed.

Since, Sir Frederick has proven his value and the interaction with the community continues. Now, whenever classical artistes return here, there will be no problem staging concerts at Government House, as there will be a new concert piano available. {{more}}

This instrument, of the quality that will ensure major classical artistes have something that corresponds to their high demands, has been acquired. Sir Frederick announced the acquisition last Saturday evening at Government House.

The piano came with a donation of $12,000 from the National Lotteries Authority (NLA), after Sir Frederick had arranged the transaction.

Sir Frederick, a lover of the fine arts, highlighted the value of music and in genuine patriotic fashion, he extended the concern to the overall community.

He also announced that another piano has also been purchased for the Peace Memorial Hall through the generosity of the telecommunications firm of Cable & Wireless.

Sir Frederick stressed the importance of having a good piano at the Peace Memorial Hall “if we want to have an impact of music on the nation”. He extolled the building of strategic partnerships, along the lines of those that resulted in the Cable & Wireless donation.

Sir Frederick praised Cable & Wireless for their quick response in coming up with US$12,000 for the prized object.

Murray Bullock, chairman of the NLA, and new Cable & Wireless Chief Executive Daryl Jackson both spoke on behalf of their respective organisations.
