Union Island hit by Remix Storm

I was left in awe as Union Island was hit by the biggest wave since Hurricane Ivan. But this was a storm of a different kind.

West Side Connections, a sound system with DJ Kano at the controls, took the island by storm last Friday night as he had the chicks rocking at Eagle’s Nest. {{more}}

Eagle’s Nest, a booming night club situated in the small town of Clifton just opposite the habour, is owned by Ainsley Lewis, better known as DJ Zags.

Friday morning I travelled with West Side Connections from mainland St. Vincent on the 40-mile trip to Union Island via Canouan and Mayreau, and arrived just after 4 p.m. on this picturesque little island. Never did I expect such warmth and friendliness from its people. Even before we checked in at Lambi’s Guest House, people were greeting us and inviting us to taste the flavours of the island… some a bit too strong for my taste buds.

Later that night, the raucous beat emanating from Eagle’s Nest must have shaken many a feather off the beautiful chicks in the club as DJ Kano kept patrons grooving until the early hours of Saturday morning.

We managed a couple hours of sleep before we got up to catch our boat to return home. We noticed some young men in front of the club who must have remained there throughout, still enjoying themselves. In fact, I renamed them: “The Nah Go Home Crew”.

All in all, the behaviour of the young people throughout was exemplary, and I hope that as I travel from club to club around the islands, all young people will exercise the same degree of maturity. Full marks to the youth of Union Island! And look out people, Searchlight’s camera may just be Up In De Club.
