Pitbull, Ice Kid in Heineken DJ finals

DJ Ice Kid is the second winner in the second round of the Heineken Green Synergy DJ Competition held at Club Iguana last Saturday.

Ice Kid beat Psychedelic Fugitive into second place by four points. The experienced DJ took the top prize of EC$1000 from among a group of five other DJs. {{more}}

Judges say that the stalwart DJ was the only one to have followed the criteria fully. One judge commented that the younger DJs treated the competition more like a DJ clash rather than a DJ competition.

During the contest, one of the younger DJs broke the no profanity rule. DJ Infra Red seemed to be having a bad night – apart from playing a tune from Tupac Shakur with curse words, he seemed not able to get the equipment to work and his inexperience showed.

The other disc jockeys on show were Chaos and Kaution Sound System (3nd place). The finals are carded for the Iguana on October 9 when Ice Kid and Pitbull will vie for the chance to represent SVG at the Heineken Music OECS Green Synergy DJ competition on October 23 in Antigua.

Meanwhile, persons looking for a good time this weekend can go to Club Iguana where they will be entertained by a number of regional disc jockeys.

A dance dubbed “The Smack Down” will feature DJ Renegade from the Black Chiney group out of Trinidad. Simply Smooth from Grenada will also do his stuff. Other DJs include Black Ice, Chemical X, Third Element Sounds and Scratch Master.

This event is being sponsored by Rent & Drive, Smirnoff Ice, Guinness, Caribbean Star and Brand Central among others.
