Guides hold peace rally

The International Day of Peace, September 21, was celebrated here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines earlier this week. On Sunday, September 19, over 150 Brownies, Guides, Rangers, Guiders and other supporters of the local Girl Guide Association commemorated the day by travelling along the leeward coast, holding whistle stops at various towns and villages between Kingstown and Fitz Hughes. {{more}}
Following the whistle stops, a peace rally was held at the Chateaubelair Playing Field.
The rally was addressed by area representative, Hon. Dr. Jerrol Thompson, and junior minister in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Clayton Burgin. Feature speaker was the newly appointed headmistress of the Girls’ High School, Andrea Bowman, herself a former girl guide. Bowman spoke on the theme of the rally, the right to live in peace.
The lively and colourful rally also saw addresses by Chief Commissioner Althea Commisiong, International Commissioner Laura Browne, former Island Commissioner Jeanette France, and coordinators of the afternoon’s programme, Commissioners Monica Coombs and Nina Maloney.
Cultural items were performed by members of the Barrouallie Brownie and Ranger Companies.
The rally was part of the 90th anniversary celebrations of the Girl Guide Association of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
