Glasgow, who spoke to SEARCHLIGHT last Sunday at the Fashion Caribbean extravaganza held at the Campden Park Industrial Estate, also noted that the fourth annual Fashion Caribbean was “excellent”.
Glasgow, who also had fashions on display at the show held last Saturday, said that her designs were well received by patrons.
“I think people received my collection very well and they understood what I was trying to get out in terms of what my creative vision was,” said Glasgow.
The West Indian novel by Dominican Jean Rhys, “The Wide Sargasso Sea”, inspired Glasgow’s collection.
Speaking about the novel, Glasgow said: “It is really about that transitional period between slavery and emancipation and how the planter class got used to it. There are a lot of underlying themes of sensuality, decay and beauty and I think that I was trying to bring that whole mishmash out in my collection.”
She said that her collection was divided into three sections which ended with evening wear and started with day wear suits with casual clothing in between that showed the versatility of her designs. Glasgow is hoping to do a male collection soon.
