Tiling your back splash

This week, for those of you who are thinking of doing some remodeling to your house and are thinking of having brand new Kitchen cabinets, or for those who are now building and are at the stage of having your Cabinet manufactured, you may have heard on the Radio, papers and T.V about the special offer we are giving.{{more}} Just to break it down for you a little, the cost of the countertop along with the purchase of your cabinets it is now at a whopping low price of $72.50 per sq ft VAT inclusive. This offer ends midday on the 24th of October. I advise you to lock down this special offer even if you are not quite ready for the kitchen until November or December 2008. Do not wait until last minute since it is a first come first serve basis.

This week I want to talk about tiling your kitchen, mainly the back splash of your wall.

For those wanting timeless beauty as well as low maintenance, the answer to this is TILES! Use wall tiles for your back splash rather than paint. When it comes to maintenance, wall tiles are easy to clean, resistant to most harmful acids, stains, and are much easier to keep the appearance of being new. If you are looking for maintenance free surfaces, then your answer to this is wall tile. These tiles will establish an ambience of style and comfort to any wall on which they are placed.

If you are thinking about your choices, rest assured that wall tiles are available in a large assortment of designs, colors, patterns and materials. We all know we are rather limited in our choice of tiles here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, but we are sure if they are not available here you can check our neighboring Caribbean Islands. Tiles are available in the following materials: glass, granite, marble, porcelain, ceramic and more. These are also available in a variety of sizes, shapes and styles which make your choices limitless. In order to prepare for your wall tiling, measure your wall surfaces carefully so to be sure you purchase the correct number of tiles to finish your wall tiling project. Always add 10 per cent for wastage or have a professional contractor do this for you if you are not capable of doing so.

If you are looking for an extremely elegant appearance to your walls, please consider your kitchen cupboards, paint on the wall and the color of appliances you are going to have in your Kitchen.

Here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, we are mostly familiar with ceramic and porcelain tiles. To some, ceramic tiles may seem or sound like the 60’s or 70’s. Don’t be fooled! It is the modern version of ceramic and porcelain.

On completion of installing our Kitchen Cabinets, we tend to advise our Clients to tile the entire back splash of the wall right up under the Cabinets. Mind you, we are not talking about those outdated 4X4 tiles, we are chatting here now about 12 x12 tiles. There are those of you who want to have a richer and unique look. Of course, you can use our Solid counter top and continue with it right up under the cabinet. Once the color of the tile or solid surface that is chosen is married with the décor of the entire Kitchen… rule of thumb… do not look at the tile in the store and think you don’t like it. Picture the tile in the environment in which you are going to put it and see if it fits well with the existing colour scheme. If it does, then buy it! Good luck! Chat next week!
