National Cricket Academy expands with nursery

THE LENNOX JOHN Cricket Academy of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Inc, is being expanded to include a nursery.

The expansion caters for budding cricketers, both male and female, between 6 and 7 years and the older group, 8 to 10 years.

The lower age group has been termed the fundamental group, with the older ones, the Learn to Train group.

President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Inc, Kishore Shallow explained to SEARCHLIGHT, the reasoning for the introduction of the nursery component to the academy.

“We are now trying to capture ages less than nine… We believe that an introduction of a nursery will address this,” Shallow informed.

“However, our approach is to apply a minor charge similar to other programmes catering for young children,” Shallow added.

A charge of $10 per session, or $35 per month, are the options of payment for the prospective participants.

Sessions of the nursery segment of the academy are at the Arnos Vale Playing Field on Saturdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., beginning soon, as the finer details are still being worked out.

Persons wishing to have their children or ward enrolled in the nursery of the academy, can contact the SVGCA Inc office, located at the entrance of the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

The nursery adds to the main component of the Lennox John National Cricket Academy, which recently saw the second batch being inducted.

When the first intake was enrolled last year, the participants netted mainly members of the male Under-15 and Under-19 teams, as well as four females, who were under the age of 19.

They were provided with clothing, shoes, a $15 stipend each Saturday, along with a snack and fruits.

Considered the signature undertaking of the SVGCA Inc, Shallow said that his organization plans to continue to work to enhance all aspects of the academy.
