Reverend Emelius V. Barnwell, Th. D

1943 – 2010

Reverend Emelius V. Barnwell, Pastor of Wesley Baptist Mission Church,  Lowmans WD, St. Vincent, died after battling Cancer, at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center, Toronto, Canada, on Friday, September 10th, 2010. Rev. Barnwell was born on May 4, 1943, in Lowmans WD, St. Vincent.  He is the son of Robert and Edna Barnwell. Rev. Barnwell earned technical certifications and business degrees from Fanshawe College and the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada.  Through the International Theological Seminary (ITS), he received a Doctor of Theology in Christian Education. Rev. Barnwell was ordained in 1993 by Rev. Angus Farrell Psy.D Th.D Ph.D at Zion Tabernacle in London, Ontario, Canada.  Rev. Barnwell specialized in Interfaith Ministry, Hospital Chaplaincy, Community and Outreach Ministry in Ontario, Canada (1993 to 1997).  Rev. Barnwell served as Pastoral Charge for Beth Emanuel Church, which is part of the British Methodist Episcopal Church (BME) congregation in London, Ontario, Canada (1995 to 1997); Wesley Baptist Mission Church in Lowmans WD, St. Vincent (1997 to 2010).{{more}} He served (concurrently) as Senior Pastor for the Wesley Baptist Mission Church in Orange Hill, St. Vincent.  He also served (concurrently) as Pastor to the Freedom Hall Church of God in Cedars, St. Vincent (2008-2010).  He served in Fellowship and Counseling for the Royal St. Vincent Police Force as Chaplain (1998 to 2008). Pastor Martin Cupid celebrated a Funeral for Reverend Emelius V. Barnwell, Th. D at Deliverance Baptist Church, Lauders, St. Vincent on Thursday, September 23, 2010. The celebration of Rev. Barnwell’s life included his family, clergy, civic dignitaries, community representatives and friends. Rev. Barnwell is survived by his wife, Shirley Barnwell (née Edwards), and children Jim Barnwell, David Barnwell, Hanif Barnwell and Alex Barnwell. Sisters: Vernis Barnwell, Janice Barnwell, Joy Barnwell, and Yvette Wickham (née Barnwell) Anna Primus (née Barnwell). Brothers: Samuel Barnwell, Aster Barnwell, Dennis Barnwell and Osborne Barnwell. In-Laws: Eldine Barnwell (née Wilson), Andreas Wickham, Bradley Primus and Jessica Barnwell (née Schaeffer).   Interment was at the Lowmans, WD Cemetery in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
